RESIDENTIAL APARTMENT | TRANSFORMATION | INTERIOR DESIGN
Revitalization of a residential apartment from the 18th century in central Copenhagen. The apartment had limited development opportunities imposed due to its preservation-worthy registration with the local government, why the boundaries to work within were constrained already from the beginning.
Our vision with the project was to bring justice to the uniqueness of the apartment and all of its historical details, which include the original panelled doors, original high wall panels and brick walls with exposed load-bearing beams.
The exposed brick walls were painted in a light grey color to provide just a subtle highlight of the texture as we wanted to draw more attention to the well-preserved wooden details by painting all wooden elements in a deep blue nuance. To bring new life to the solid wood flooring, we applied a white varnished pigmentation that created a well-balanced coldness to the other colors. In order to preserve the medieval-like ambience, up/down wall-mounted lighting was installed.
The kitchen was completely worn-out and lacked basic functionalities. We wanted to bring rustic elements into the interior design to complement the exposed brick walls, which was done by installing a streamlined kitchen in stainless steel. Due to the preservation-worthy status of the apartment, the new kitchen had to be installed in accordance to the existing layout. We managed to optimize the room to a much larger degree by customizing a much deeper solid stainless steel kitchen top that allowed for utilization of what had previously been window sills. Finally, all kitchen handles and a wall-mounted pot rack were included in brushed and burnished brass to contribute with an old and warm character to the overall environment of the kitchen.
